POLICIES and PROCEDURES
Delano Joint Union School District
Delano Adult School
Business Education
The primary objective of the Business Education Program is to prepare students for jobs. An essential part of this job readiness involves not only your skills but also your attitude as it relates to attendance. Students sometimes feel that “this is only school; it will be different when I get a job.” Employers, however, are aware that this is not the case; the pattern established in training is the pattern that exists during employment. When employers call the school regarding prospective employees, the attendance record of that prospect is always of primary concern to them.
The Adult School does not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences; each day you are not in school is an absence regardless of the reason. You are required to attend school every day. Understandably, there will be times of illness or family challenges; however, for all other appointments and activities, we ask that you schedule these things around school hours. Our purpose is to help you achieve your goals here in a timely manner so you can move forward with your employment goals.
Students that are attending through a program, i.e., Tulare Works or Cal-Works, are required to attend 95% of the time. The Adult School is financially dependent entirely on actual hours of attendance by students. The variety and frequency of tardiness (tardies include late arrivals and early departures) will also be monitored. Not following these policies will result in a scheduled conference with your teacher to discuss attendance, progress, attitude, school, and any problems you may be having which are interfering with your school work. If after the conference, you are unable to solve these problems satisfactorily, we will recommend a conference with the counselor.
Students who are absent six (6) days throughout the quarter will be terminated. If you are absent, call the Adult School at 720-4173 or my extension at 720-4373. This telephone call does not excuse your absence but is a courtesy to the school and to your teacher. When you gain employment, calling to report your absences is mandatory.
